GeoGovernance combines the natural and  social science research interests and approaches. Central focus is the governmental handling of administrative earth and environmental science expertise. In order to answer the question how to tackle this approach , we must closely examine the way we organize and execute the scientific expertise. In addition, an improved method for the research and development of a new type of research network must be derived, to investigate pressing issues thematically and in terms of comprehensive political decision deal with the consequences more efficiently. The biggest challenge for a political “GeoGovernance” are uncertainties in knowledge and difficult decision options.

Across a broad range of different pilot projects at the University Of Potsdam, new methods and offers are being developed to provide an improved way to understand and explain complex technical knowledge and ensure the implementation of research results and thus applied knowledge into the decision-making process. A central role will be the moderated dialogue between researchers and decision makers and further education and training of professionals and executives.
